A few FH facts about the QP founder — she didn’t start playing hockey until 7th grade, she LOOOVES the attacking side of the game, and she has a genuine, lifelong passion for the sport and feels at home on the field. As you can see in the photo, Katie has two daughters, Quinn (9) and Pippin (8), who are always on the sidelines and are already beginning to love the best sport in the world!   A fun non-FH fact, Katie’s favorite food is cake (vanilla with vanilla buttercream icing), and her girls share the same love for sweets!

A bit more about Katie…

Before establishing the QP Hockey Company, she was co-founder of Tucked Training Field Hockey, coached collegiately at La Salle University, Saint Joseph’s University and Columbia University, and also worked with several high school teams including Stuart Country Day School (Princeton, NJ), St. John’s College High School (Washington DC), and Villa Maria Academy (Malvern, PA — currently assisting with the Varsity team). She also dabbles on the umpiring side of things as well (see the umpire tab if you’re interested in umpiring)!

A competitor at heart, Katie still plays whenever she can. In August of 2022, she played in the Masters World Cup in Nottingham, England with the USA O35 Team (bottom pic). She will compete again in the Masters World Cup in Capetown, South Africa with the USA 040 Team this upcoming October, and is hoping to continue representing her country for many years to come! Back in the day, she competed internationally in the Top Women’s Division in Spain (2007) and with USA Junior National teams (2000-2006).

From 2002-2005, Katie helped lead the Duke Blue Devils to four NCAA tournaments, three National Championship game appearances, and a consistent top national ranking. She firmly believes that accolades do not define an athlete, but was honored to receive various nods during her college career. She was a three-time All-American, NCAA All-Tournament Team selection, and All-ACC selection. She earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors her freshman year and ACC Offensive Player of the Year as a senior.  She holds the school record for career assists (61) and points (223), and the “Katie Grant Attacking Player of the Year” is now given to the top attacker on the team after each season. And for the record, she would LOVE to see a future Dukie break those records!

“I could not be more excited about this new coaching venture. I have been involved in the game for 25 years now, but lately, I’ve seen a shift. I think it’s incredible that young athletes are being introduced to the sport earlier and earlier, and I want to make their experiences quality, and most importantly, enjoyable. As a parent, coach, umpire, and athlete, I see every side. QP Hockey is all about creating community through hockey, and working together to provide a valuable and positive experience where true growth happens on and off the field. I hope to meet you at a QP event soon!” -Katie
